Shiro (Semolina Halwa)

Semolina halwa is another popular sweet dish on an auspicious time and occasional treat. By reducing the semolina portion to 100gm, you can enjoy richer flavours from Shiro.

Serves 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 125 gm Semolina
  • 50 gm ghee
  • 500 ml warm milk
  • 60 gm sugar
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped almond
  • ½ tsp cardamom
  • 10/15 raisin chopped

Recipe:

  • In a saucepan take ghee and add semolina. Cook semolina on very low heat for 10 minutes until you can smell the aroma of roast semolina. Make sure you keep stirring to avoid semolina burning.
  • Now add chopped almond, chopped raisin and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Now add milk, stir well and cook for another 15 minutes. Make sure to keep stirring to avoid sticking to the base.
  • Now add sugar and cardamom powder and cook for another 5 minutes. Keep stirring every few minutes otherwise because of sugar halwa will stick to the saucepan. Once the halwa is completely dry, switch the heat off.
  • Serve hot!
